Easy Calzones
These calzones are easy to make using frozen bread dough!
I cannot get over how good these calzones were. My 5 year old out-ate my husband and I ended up making more the second time we had these. Plus we made them for family during the holidays and everyone loved them. We've made them four times since the first time and that is extremely rare in my house!
Oh and they came from none other than PDub - so you know they're good!
What you need:
Frozen bread dough
1 Tbsp. butter
1 onion, diced
1 lb. Italian sausage
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
2 cups Mozzarella cheese
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
Black pepper
2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
1 egg, beaten
Marinara sauce
Directions:
Thaw your bread dough - this can take a few hours to do.
Cook onions in butter over medium-high heat. Add sausage and brown.
Add Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Drain if necessary and let cool.
Mix together cheeses, 2 eggs, salt, pepper, and parsley. Then stir in cooled sausage.
Separate dough into four pieces or so and roll out into very thin circles.
Spoon in filling and fold the dough over itself in half. Crimp with fork and place on a baking sheet.
Brush with beaten egg and bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 10 to 13 minutes. Serve with marinara.
